Please help Maureen by sharing this page! Maureen is an 11-year-old Collie Cross in the care of Animal Adoption International . She's in a multi-dog foster home in Essex, waiting for the perfect retirement home. Maureen loves the company of most other dogs. She'd like at least one, preferably male doggy sibling at home. She likes playing with other dogs but has been known to get a bit bossy with other female dogs sometimes. She knows her own mind, does Maureen! Maureen likes a fuss from people she trusts but it has to be on her terms, when she’s in the mood. She is and will always be shy of strangers. She can be very nervous at times and when things get too much for her, she takes herself to her bed or crate where she knows she’ll be left in peace to compose herself. Maureen is clean and well-behaved in the home. She can be left for a few hours with her dog friends for company. She does need a peaceful home without children or cats and with a garden to snuffle in. Maureen walks nicely on the lead and, as she's good with other dogs, she's a pleasure to take out for quiet walks. She's not a fan of busy traffic though and occasionally she comes over all anxious and decides she'd rather just potter about the garden than face the big wide world that day. When relaxed, she's a playful and affectionate dog. She does need owners who allow her to get used to things in her own time and then her inner puppy will come out to play! About Maureen

What life with Maureen looks like

Maureen is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at The Oldies Club in United Kingdom.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maureen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maureen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Oldies Club handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maureen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maureen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Oldies Club will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maureen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maureen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Oldies Club early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maureen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
