Mei

Border Collie · Female · Puppy

Mei – sensible Border-Collie-Hündin sucht verständnisvolle Menschen The beautiful Border-Collie-Hound Mei has found her way to a Spanish animal shelter – a place that currently makes her very anxious. She still shows herself to be very shy, moves cautiously through her surroundings and usually carries her tail tucked in. It is clear that she feels uncomfortable in the shelter environment and is overwhelmed by the situation. Despite her uncertainty, Mei proves to be an exceptionally loving and gentle dog. She lets it be known that a friendly soul lies within her, which simply needs time to gain trust. We are sure that in a quiet, loving home, she will gradually thaw out and show her true personality. For Mei, we wish for patient people who do not place expectations on her and give her the time she needs. A confident first-time dog could be of great help to her, as she could orient herself around a four-legged friend and learn from him. A more rural or quiet living environment would make it easier for her to start. Since Mei is very sensitive to her surroundings, there should be no small children in the household. People with heart, empathy and understanding for a dog that initially goes through life cautiously are being sought. Once she has thawed out, of course, Mei wants to be exercised, both mentally and physically. Who will give Mei the chance to leave the shelter behind and finally experience how beautiful a sheltered home can be? With patience, love and security, the shy Border-Collie-Hound will definitely become a faithful companion for life. Here is Mei's video

About Mei

What life with Mei looks like

Mei is a large puppy/kitten border collie dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mei, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mei?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mei on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mei if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mei already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mei isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mei and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
