Labrador Retriever · Female · Young · 2 years

DATE OF BIRTH: 12/09/2023 BREED: MIX OF LABRADOR HEALTH: Good. Mela is positive to Leishmania, but has a low level and is only on maintenance treatment. COLOR: BROWN AND WHITE JEFF is a young, very active, and energetic dog. He is a social, trusting, and well-disposed dog towards people, with no notable insecurity or mistrust issues. He is affectionate. Emotionally, he is a nervous dog with a tendency to get excited easily, especially during movement, walks, or anticipation. He needs structure, clear routines, and accompaniment to learn how to better manage his excitement and impulsiveness. He is a very good dog with great learning capacity, but he needs daily work to help him regulate and improve his self-control. It is also important to note that he is an escape artist, so it will be crucial to maximize safety in doors, fences, leashes, and open spaces. MELA is balanced and more calm than her brother. She has a more stable energy and better daily management, although she still needs emotional work and accompaniment to improve her regulation. She is a social dog with a good predisposition towards people. Although she does not show as high an activation level as Jeff, she still needs to continue working on self-control, reducing stress and anxiety, and learning to better manage certain moments of excitement or anticipation. She has good learning capacity and responds well when worked on from calmness, coherence, and connection. Walks: Jeff pulls quite a bit on the leash, especially at the beginning of walks or when there are many environmental stimuli. He tends to get very activated and finds it hard to regulate his emotions during the walk, so it is important to work on leash management from calmness and consistency. He needs structured, calm walks with the possibility of sniffing to help reduce his anxiety and better channel his energy. Mela walks much better than Jeff and has a more tranquil management during walks. Although at some moments she still may pull on the leash, especially with certain stimuli or at the beginning of the walk, she generally maintains a more stable and regulated attitude. What they need to work on: leash management, reducing anxiety and activation, improving self-control, emotional regulation during walks, working on connection and bond with their reference person, building trust, managing impulsivity, and safety and prevention of escape behaviors. They are not compatible with cats. They have a hunting instinct. With people, they are trusting and affectionate. They need a quiet environment more favorable for them to give that level of stability they need. They have always lived in the countryside, and outdoors. Mela y jefe arrive after being loaned to us by a family who, due to a significant change in their personal situation and having to return to their country, could no longer take care of them.

About Mela y jefe

What life with Mela y jefe looks like

Mela y jefe is a young adult labrador retriever dog waiting at SOS Golden in Spain.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mela y jefe, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mela y jefe?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SOS Golden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mela y jefe on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mela y jefe if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SOS Golden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mela y jefe already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mela y jefe isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SOS Golden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mela y jefe and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
