Arco

Labrador Retriever · Male · Senior · 12 years

DATE OF BIRTH: 11/08/2014 BREED: LABRADOR CROSS HEALTH: Good. Completed treatment for Heartworm. CHARACTER: He is very fearful. His recovery is progressive but slow. When he gains confidence, he is very affectionate. In September 2016, we received an urgent call for help. Arco had entered the dog pound in Jerez with both front legs on the right side "damaged," and thus at risk of imminent euthanasia. We immediately took him in. After an initial veterinary check-up, we decided to transfer him to Madrid to a foster care home for a second opinion from a trusted veterinary orthopaedic specialist. The diagnosis was a dislocation of the elbow in the front leg and a fracture with dislocation in the hind leg. The issue was that these injuries were about five weeks old, so fibrosis and callus had already begun to form. Given this, it was decided to allow the fracture to continue its healing process and to operate on the elbow dislocation in an attempt to fully restore his functionality. As can be seen in the X-rays, with two surgeries on the joint, the perfect realignment was achieved. He also had Heartworm, but the treatment has been completed. In a few months, the test will be repeated to confirm that all parasites have been eliminated. But the most serious issue was his psychological recovery. Arco had suffered unimaginable trauma and displayed extreme fear: unable to react to any stimulus, blocked by fear without the ability to react. He is in lifelong foster care.

FECHA DE NACIMIENTO: 11/08/2014 RAZA: CRUCE DE LABRADOR SALUD: Buena. About Arco

What life with Arco looks like

Arco is a senior labrador retriever dog waiting at SOS Golden in Spain.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Arco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Arco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SOS Golden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Arco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Arco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SOS Golden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Arco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Arco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SOS Golden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Arco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
