Adopt Melba

Lurcher · Female · Puppy · 9 months

Melba could live with children of any age. She could potentially live with other dogs, but not cats or other small animals Melba is a lovely and super affectionate young lady! She adores both people and other dogs and is a really fun and playful girl to spend time with. She loves being in the company of her humans and canine friends and also enjoys playing with toys. Melba is still just a pup and so will need all of the standard training and socialisation all young dogs require to help her to continue to develop into a happy, healthy well-rounded adult. Although we feel she could live with children, she is a typical pup and can be excitable, so this would need management and consideration around very young children to avoid her accidently knocking them over! Melba arrived into our care as a stray and so sadly, we have no background information on her. She has been a pleasure to get to know during her stay with us and proven herself to be a wonderful, friendly and sociable girl. This sweet soul has an infectious love for life and really is just a joy to be around. She has so much love to give and so deserves to find a forever family who can take her on lots of lovely adventures and show her all of the wonderful things life has to offer. We have no doubt she will make a fantastic addition to her forever home and will return her family’s love and affection tenfold!

About Melba

What life with Melba looks like

Melba is a small puppy/kitten lurcher dog waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Melba, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Melba?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Melba on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Melba if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Melba already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Melba isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Melba and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
