Mercy

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Meet Mercy (34kg)! When this lovely girl first came into our care, she was extremely scared and completely shut down. It has taken time, patience and a lot of reassurance, but she has slowly started to come out of her shell, and we are so pleased with the progress she has made. With people she knows and trusts, she is a very sweet, affectionate and playful girl. She enjoys attention and loves having fun. Seeing her personality beginning to shine through has been incredibly rewarding. However, she is still very unsure and nervous around new people, and this is something her new family will need to understand and be prepared to work on. She will need someone who can continue building her confidence at her own pace, using patience, consistency and positive experiences to help her feel safe and secure. She is also very strong on the lead, so her new owner must be physically capable of handling a strong dog and have previous experience with large breed dogs. An experienced owner who understands nervous dogs and is willing to put the time into her training and confidence-building is essential. She isn’t the dog for a first time dog owner, but for the right person, we believe she has the potential to form an incredibly special bond. She needs someone who will give her the time she deserves. never rush her, and allow her confidence to grow at her own pace. This girl has already come such a long way. Now she needs that special person willing to continue the journey with her. She will need a private secure garden. Mercy has interacted with other dogs whilst in our care, she can be playful with some and very unsure around others, so we feel she would be best rehomed as the only dog in the home where she can get 100% of the attention. As Mercy came into the home as a stray, we have no previous history on her, so would prefer any children/visiting children to be 16+ years.

About Mercy

What life with Mercy looks like

Mercy is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) in Manchester.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mercy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mercy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mercy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mercy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mercy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mercy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mercy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
