Merlin

Labrador Retriever · Male · Puppy · 11 months

Merlin is a gorgeous boy, and is looking for an understanding family that can help build his confidence in some areas as he is still learning about the big wide world. He would like owners that are around for most of the day and build his time alone slowly, as he can be a little clingy when unsettled. He may also need a bit of support with his house-training whilst he settles in, but is a very quick learner. Merlin travels well in the car and would be a brilliant adventure buddy! Merlin is still a young chap, and is learning to keep four paws on the ground. He will be such a rewarding companion! We can't wait to see this gorgeous boy in his forever home, lapping up all the love! Meet the most handsome boy, Merlin! Merlin is a 10-month old Labrador who is looking for his forever home. Merlin would love to live with another tolerant dog in the home, as he gets lots of confidence from them but would benefit from being taught the ropes as he can be a bit full on! Merlin would prefer for all children in the home to be sensible secondary school age and above, as he can be worried meeting new people initially but does come round quickly and loves a cuddle. Merlin is a playful, affectionate young boy who is eager to please and very quick to learn. Merlin is looking for an active home who will keep his brain busy, as well as spend time enjoying a cuddle on the sofa. Merlin can pull on the lead, so may need some guidance in this area but is happy to settle after a good bit of exercise, play and stimulation, enjoying a good game of tug and fetch! He absolutely loves his long lasting chews, and his food motivation is very helpful for his training. He is still building his confidence, social experience and training so would love committed owners that can give him some guidance through the early stages of his life!

About Merlin

What life with Merlin looks like

Merlin is a large puppy labrador retriever dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Merlin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Merlin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Merlin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Merlin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Merlin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Merlin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Merlin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
