Mew - A Little Tortoiseshell Beauty is Looking for Her People❤️ Mew is one of those cats where you can easily imagine how nice it would be if she were no longer in the animal shelter, but in her own home.❤️ She is affectionate and cuddly with people and enjoys closeness and affection. She wants to belong, receive her petting, and finally find people with whom she can really connect.🥰 🐱 Mew is compatible with other cats by sympathy. So the chemistry must be right - after all, Mew also wants to have a say in the choice of her roommates.😉 We can also imagine a home as a single princess for her if her people have enough time and attention for her. 👧👦 Children are also welcome to join her new family. With her beautiful tortoiseshell coat, Mew is of course a real eye-catcher - but what is even more important is what is underneath: a loving, people-oriented cat who longs for closeness and a home.❤️ Maybe Mew is just waiting for you?🏡🐾

About Mew

What life with Mew looks like

Mew is an adult british shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Gelsenkirchen in Gelsenkirchen.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mew, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mew?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Gelsenkirchen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mew on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mew if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Gelsenkirchen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Mew already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mew isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Gelsenkirchen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mew and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
