Adopt Mia

Belgian Malinois · Female · Young · 2 years

Mia arrived at our shelter via police services following an incident of biting that occurred in a public space, at a bus stop. Her past and life journey have left a significant mark on her interactions with humans and her environment, necessitating a thoughtful and adapted approach today. Mia is a sensitive dog who forms very strong bonds with her reference humans. She displays a particularly pronounced attachment, likely linked to her history with a owner living in a state of great precariousness. This fusional relationship provided her with some stability, but also contributed to developing a strong emotional dependency on the people she attaches to. At first glance, Mia can be wary of strangers. However, when one takes the time to respect her pace and build a positive relationship with her, her behavior evolves quickly. Play is indeed a powerful lever for creating a bond with her. By associating the presence of a new person with pleasant and enriching experiences, Mia gradually learns to trust. Once this trust is established, she reveals a much more relaxed and endearing personality. Regarding daily life, unfortunately, we do not know her behavior in a home environment. Mia has not truly experienced the family life that most dogs live today. Her future adopters will therefore need to be ready to accompany her in the discovery of this new environment, with patience, consistency, and kindness. It will be important to give her the time she needs to settle in and build new references gradually. Walks, shared activities, and playtime will undoubtedly be valuable tools for strengthening the relationship with her and promoting her emotional balance.

About Mia

What life with Mia looks like

Mia is a young adult belgian malinois dog waiting at Perwez) in Sans Collier.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Perwez) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Perwez) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Perwez) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
