Mia

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 4 months

Our friends at Dolmen Animal are currently experiencing a cuteness overload on all 24 paws! But as lovely and adorable as that may be, the real reason our partners are still wearing smiles—despite the hunting season soon coming to an end, despite kennels being full, and despite the fact that hunting dogs still remain outside the scope of Spain’s new animal protection law—is that this delightful sextet, along with their mother, is now safely in their care. For many months, Isabelita was the little darling of animal welfare activists. This exceptionally clever dog was cared for by local residents in a small village for a long time. She repeatedly became pregnant, yet her puppies always either died or were stolen; no one ever managed to capture this cautious and nimble mixed-breed lady. Only Nube, one of her daughters, had been rescued during a previous litter. Isabelita outsmarted live traps, left food untouched, and always knew exactly when someone tried to catch her. Then, in December 2025, the villagers called to say that Isabelita was pregnant again—and on December 12th, six brand-new earthlings arrived. What no one had dared to hope for finally came true: while Isabelita was out foraging for food, the animal welfare team brought the puppies to a warm, dry, and above all, lockable place. Sure enough, Isabelita returned to her babies, and the entire family could be secured. VID—very important dogs—are allowed to move directly to the management level, which is why Isabelita and her babies are now under the care of the shelter’s director. They’re growing up in a safe and loving environment, getting to know people, occasionally visiting volunteers at home so Isabelita can have a bit of peace and quiet, receiving top-notch food, and being raised by their fantastic mom into brave world conquerors. Isabelita herself is quite the quirky mix, truly encompassing the entire spectrum of imaginable dog breeds. Podenco, Bodeguero, Mastin Espanol, Pointer, maybe even a Vorstehhund—or perhaps a Breton—her gene pool brings together hunting dogs, livestock guardian dogs, running marvels, terriers... and her current brood displays every shade of them all. So here we have six surprise eggs in all colors and shapes, with long and short tails (in some hunting breeds and the Mastin, short tails are often born that way), ears that are still very undecided, and the vague prophecy that they’ll eventually grow to “medium size”—that is, bigger than a dachshund but smaller than a Saint Bernard—with a likely final weight somewhere between 20 and 30 kilograms. Right now, our six sandbox rockers stand about 30 centimeters tall and weigh 5 kilograms (as of early February 2026). Mia, like all her siblings, is a playful and people-oriented little whirlwind. She clearly shows her connection to the Bodeguero breed and proudly sports her stylish tricolor coat. Mia is the smallest in the litter, but that doesn’t stop her from occasionally letting her siblings know exactly where the action is. She really has a chic terrier head—not just on the outside. Mia is intelligent and curious; she’s looking for an active family who loves spending time outdoors, and she wants both physical and mental stimulation and challenges. Thanks to a volunteer who occasionally takes the babies home to give Isabelita a little break from the rambunctious bunch, Mia already knows what it’s like to ride in a car and has met cats—both experiences she finds pretty cool. Head over heels? Totally understandable! We’d love to hear from you if you’re ready for tiny puppy teeth, holes in socks and shoes, endlessly sweet cuddle sessions that are hard to interrupt, and many years of exciting and colorful adventures ahead.

Was niemand zu hoffen wagte, gelang diesmal.

About Mia

What life with Mia looks like

Mia is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
