Mia (und Oskar)

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 11 years

Mia, born 2015 / (Oskar born 2014) Mia and Oskar came to us not long ago and are now allowed to start looking for a new home. The two Bernhardiners lived together previously and get along splendidly. We therefore want to try the almost impossible and find a joint retirement home for the two giants. Both are really absolutely nice dogs, but are simply large and strong. Mia is a little bit on the autistic side. Perhaps, based on her experience, she has low expectations of people. She does her thing, but is always friendly and more laid-back. Oskar has a bit more power, is sometimes a little bouncy, and likes to discuss what does and doesn't go. Neither Oskar nor Mia show any interest in cats or small animals, and also not in other dogs. Oskar and Mia are actually very easy to satisfy. A large piece of land would be nice, on which they can move freely. Children should be at least in their teenage years simply because the two are really large and strong. We hope very much that our two Bernhardiner seniors will find a wonderful new home! We would be happy to arrange a meeting and let you get to know them at our shelter. our shelter Pirmasens -22 { margin: auto; } -22 -22 img { border: 2px solid; }

About Mia (und Oskar)

What life with Mia (und Oskar) looks like

Mia (und Oskar) is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Pirmasens in Pirmasens.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mia (und Oskar), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mia (und Oskar)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Pirmasens handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mia (und Oskar) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mia (und Oskar) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Pirmasens will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mia (und Oskar) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mia (und Oskar) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Pirmasens early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mia (und Oskar) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
