Mick & Abel

European Shorthair · Male · Young · 1 year

Mick and Abel are two gentle, affectionate tomcats who have grown up together and clearly get along very well; they regularly seek each other out and give each other affectionate head butts. In a new environment, both gentlemen need some time to feel at ease. They may hiss out of uncertainty at first and particularly Abel will initially retreat to a safe spot. Fortunately, they can be persuaded with some treats! Once they gain confidence, their affectionate nature emerges. Secretly, they love attention and can thoroughly enjoy cuddle moments. Abel sometimes even finds attention more important than food! These cuddle sessions are accompanied by love bites that occasionally are a bit too hard. This couple is the best at giving head butts. With their playful roles, they show how happy they are. Both are easy to pick up, enjoy being near you and will probably snuggle up against you. However, they may still react a bit fearfully to loud or unexpected noises. We place Mick and Abel in a predictable, loving household where there is patience and space to let the boys get used to their new surroundings. They can possibly be placed with children from 12 years old. After a settling-in period, Mick and Abel would like to go outside to explore the quiet, green surroundings. For information: Mick can be recognized by the scar on his nose.

NL·Show original

Ga terug

About Mick & Abel

What life with Mick & Abel looks like

Mick & Abel is a young adult european shorthair cat waiting at Dierentehuis Arnhem in Netherlands.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mick & Abel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mick & Abel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis Arnhem handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mick & Abel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mick & Abel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis Arnhem will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mick & Abel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mick & Abel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis Arnhem early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mick & Abel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
