Adopt Mičmans

Male · Adult · 5 years

A 48 kg Pomeranian-type fluffy dog named Mitchman was surrendered by his owner himself, lying to the police that the dog wasn't his but that of a deceased friend. Indeed, Mitchman had never had a good life before - he lived in a small yard area with alcoholics and homeless people, spending his days tied up. The only joy in Mitchman's life was his childhood friend Dick. Both dogs ended up at our shelter because Dick's owner had actually died. And while Dick had a free life in the yard, whenever Mitchman was let off the leash, he would run with wings on his feet to his friend, and the two would walk together along the banks of the Daugava River. We were told that Mitchman could also be aggressive, so for a long time we treated the Pomeranian with great caution. However, at the same time we saw that in reality the dog was only seemingly dangerous, but in his soul he was gentle and insecure. It's hard for Mitchman without Dick. Mitchman always looks for his companion wherever he goes, when he is alone or feels insecure. We have no illusions that two middle-aged, large, serious dogs will be adopted together in a home. And the chances are very slim that they will be adopted separately. However, we want to believe in a miracle. Mitchman is suitable for people experienced in dog training, in a family without small children. You cannot imagine how well-mannered and comfortable Mitchman is compared to a previously leashed dog - he always comfortably falls into his bed and lazily looks around, being extremely clean. On the other hand, during walks, he runs and barks, "dressing you up". There is an abundance of strength and energy, as well as love and warmth, in the Pomeranian. The main thing is to meet people who are not afraid of Mitchman and are ready to show him that there can be another, dog-respectful life, where relationships between a mature human and an animal prevail. About Mičmans

What life with Mičmans looks like

Mičmans is a adult dog waiting at Labās Mājas in Riga.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇱🇻Adopting from Latvia

Frequently asked

Adopting Mičmans, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mičmans?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labās Mājas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mičmans on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mičmans if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labās Mājas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mičmans already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mičmans isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labās Mājas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mičmans and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
