Midnight

Akita · Unknown

With her stunning long coat, kind eyes and gentle nature, this beautiful 5 and a half year old girl is hoping her next chapter will be one filled with love, companionship and plenty of time spent with her forever family. Midnight is a friendly, affectionate girl who enjoys being around people. She loves a gentle fuss and happily stands to be groomed, making pamper sessions a lovely way to spend time together. Whether she’s soaking up the attention or simply relaxing by your side, Midnight is happiest when she’s close to those she trusts. If there’s one place Midnight loves most, it’s the great outdoors. She enjoys spending time in the garden, watching the world go by and making the most of the fresh air. A secure garden where she can potter about and relax would be high on her wish list. Midnight currently lives with young children and has been a much loved member of the family. She could happily live with children aged five years and over who understand how to behave respectfully around dogs. When it comes to canine company, Midnight is a sociable girl and has shown herself to be friendly with other dogs. She could potentially share her new home with a well matched neutered male of a similar size, following careful introductions. However, she would be best in a cat free home. Walk time is one of Midnight’s favourite parts of the day. She can be a little eager when she first sets off and may pull on the lead through excitement, but once she’s settled, she walks beautifully and enjoys exploring at a much calmer pace. She loves to sniff and to say hello to new people out and about. Like many dogs, Midnight prefers not to spend long periods on her own. She would be happiest in a home where someone is around for much of the day. She has settled into a routine and will happily choose to rest in her kennel for short periods when left, but having plenty of companionship will help her continue to flourish. Our assessor said “Midnight is a wonderful, sweet and affectionate girl, she is alert, clever and curious and will do anything if there is a treat involved. She is a gentle giant, loyal, fluffy, playful and affectionate who will make the most perfect companion for any family. This lovely girl is only looking for a new home because her family’s busy lifestyle means they can no longer give her the time she deserves. It has been an incredibly difficult decision, made entirely with Midnight’s happiness and wellbeing in mind. Now all that’s missing is a family who will cherish her for the wonderful dog she is. If you have room in your home, your heart, and your garden for a gentle, affectionate Akita who will reward your kindness with unwavering loyalty, Midnight could be the companion you’ve been waiting for. Could Midnight be the missing piece of your family? We’d love to hear from you.

About Midnight

What life with Midnight looks like

Midnight is a extra-large adult akita dog waiting at Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Midnight, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Midnight?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Midnight on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Midnight if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Midnight already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Midnight isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK early rather than rehoming privately; they know Midnight and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
