Adopt Mike J

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Profile: Age: Born around November 2022 Gender: male neutered: yes Character: friendly, initially somewhat shy Size: approx. 48 cm In shelter since: March 2023 Siblings: Watani & (Lyall, Lou, Leon – already boarded) Our initially so unsettled Mike finally shows a great deal of curiosity and wants to participate in life. When he came to us, he always avoided us and hid behind his brothers. Finally, it is possible to get photos of him, in which he looks directly into the camera. He overcomes his shyness and dares to come out of the corner. It is beautiful to see that he has managed to leave his snail house despite the difficult conditions. He is definitely on the right path. We think that Mike can adapt well in a quiet environment with a loving person or family. However, patience and some dog experience will be necessary to show him that he has arrived in his "forever home" where he can live with full trust and without fear. He can enjoy his life and grow old. Mike gets along well with his fellow animals. Therefore, an easy-going only dog at home or on the foster home would be beneficial, so that he can learn that life in Germany is great. He so much wants to finally escape the confines of the cage, go for daily walks with his people, snuggle in a dog bed, and simply enjoy his new life. It will probably take some time for Mike to get used to the completely foreign everyday life for him. A new environment, different sounds, and smells – this unsettles most dogs! But with enough patience, you can help him settle in and gain confidence. Which loving person would like to enable Mike to start a new, better life? If you are interested in Mike, please fill out our interest form () or write us an email or a message on Facebook. Mike is ready to travel and can travel to Germany with the next transport. Our dogs travel legally with Traces. Traces refers to the database system with which the entire animal transport within the EU is monitored. The dogs travel neutered (if old enough), vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed, and have an EU passport. Additionally, a rapid test for the following Mediterranean diseases is carried out for dogs over 12 months of age before travel arrangements: Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis, Dirofilariasis, and leishmaniasis. The sponsorship for Mike has been taken over by Johanna J. and ensures a full plate. Many thanks on behalf of the dogs!

About Mike J

What life with Mike J looks like

Mike J is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Seelen für Seelchen e.V. in Alfter.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mike J, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mike J?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Seelen für Seelchen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mike J on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mike J if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Seelen für Seelchen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mike J already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mike J isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Seelen für Seelchen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mike J and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
