Adopt Mike

Male · 3 years

Mike is one of those dogs that when abandoned, gets mad at the world, and if on top of that, they end up in the dog pound, their chances of being adopted vanish. We met Mike at the dog pound; you would peek to see it and it would show its teeth, imagine if someone were to adopt and found a Mike in that angry posture... they would pass by, but we decided to take a chance on Mike and give it a chance... At first, Mike didn't like the animal rescue association much; it still had its angry posture, didn't want to leave its comfort zone, which it thought was its territory, but we made it understand it was wrong and that something much better was waiting for it... And in a week, everything changed. That scared, reluctant, and "saborio" (a term used for a dog that is difficult to handle) little pup understood that what we were offering was much better than what it had been hiding from. Now, it's no longer a struggle to put the leash on it; it comes to us to have it put on, and we can pet and touch it constantly! It now is a stable and balanced dog, has forgotten its abandonment, mistreatment, and its previous bad life.

About Mike

What life with Mike looks like

Mike is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Protectora Malaga in Málaga.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires patient rehabilitation due to past abandonment trauma

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mike, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mike?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Protectora Malaga handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mike on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mike if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Protectora Malaga will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mike already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mike isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Protectora Malaga early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mike and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
