Mikey

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Mikey is a very special cat, which is why he is featured first here. He comes from Crete and already has an extraordinary story. Since the end of September he has been in one of our foster homes. His former foster home on Crete writes to us: Color: black/white Sex: male Date of birth: approx. 15.04.2026 Tests: FIV / FeLV negative Vaccinations: complete Neutering: not yet neutered Location: Dresden Handicat Character: an extremely friendly little tomcat who loves his people unconditionally. He really enjoys other cats who play and cuddle with him. We don't know how he gets along with children and dogs. He is playful for his age and finds everything new interesting. Description, Story French vacationers heard a pitiful meowing near their holiday house and could not locate it. They suspected it was under an old canoe that had been left in a courtyard between two holiday houses. Being cat lovers, they placed water and food right next to the canoe. The little meowing creature was still nowhere to be seen, but the bowls were emptied overnight. After a few days they spotted a small tomcat wobbling unsteadily toward another feeding spot of theirs. The little one was terribly frightened, emaciated, and dirty. They informed the Cat Lovers of Sitia, who in turn contacted us. That is how Micky first came to Thomas in Sitia. At a first visit to the vet, he was thoroughly examined, treated for parasites, washed, and his inflamed eyes were treated. His ears were also black and had to be cleaned and treated for mites. Then the diagnosis for his unsteady gait came: "Wobbly Cat Syndrome," in German "Kleinhirnhypoplasie" (cerebellar hypoplasia). This is damage to the cerebellum that can be triggered already in the mother cat's womb by an illness. The cerebellum develops during the last three weeks of pregnancy, so any poison, disease, or pathogen affecting the pregnant cat can negatively influence the development of the kittens. Colloquially, such kittens are called ataxia cats. The condition is not curable, but the cats can expand their abilities with exercises. The good news is that they don't know they are somewhat different, and they can enjoy life with the same joy in an adapted environment. So it is with Micky. After hiding in his cat playpen for the first few days, he grew braver and more curious and came out of his playpen. Still very wobbly and fearful, he explored his new surroundings. By chance, another cat of about the same age from the same corner of Sitia also came into foster care with Thomas, and the two got along splendidly, played, groomed each other, and soon cuddled together. Micky also gained more and more trust in his human and enjoyed lying with him, cuddling, and being petted. From a frightened little bundle of misery, he became a affectionate, playful, happy little tomcat. And so he was able to move to his current foster home in Dresden. He has settled in wonderfully there too, has a little cat friend, and is enjoying cat life to the fullest. Because of his disability, he cannot climb or jump. Micky will only be placed as an indoor cat; free-roaming would be life-threatening for him. A ground-level outdoor enclosure or balcony would be lovely. He loves lying in the sun. Micky absolutely needs feline company, ideally a cat of the same age. Would you like to adopt Mikey and give him a home that meets his needs? Then please contact us at:

About Mikey

What life with Mikey looks like

Mikey is a small puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Leise-Pfoten e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mikey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mikey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Leise-Pfoten e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mikey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mikey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Leise-Pfoten e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Mikey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mikey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Leise-Pfoten e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mikey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
