Mila

Caucasian Shepherd Dog · Female · Young · 1 year

Mila is a young Caucasian female dog still finding her place in the world. She is very close, sensitive, and adaptable with her trusted people. She loves to snuggle and play, but she is mostly sleeping or quietly observing her surroundings. In free roam, she is at least currently good with dogs of any size, gender, and age. On a leash, however, she is particularly reactive and hard to control during front-on encounters with other dogs. Outside, she is very relaxed and moves confidently and calmly in any environment. Rassetypically, Mila is territorial, vigilant, and meets strangers and other dogs with suspicion. In her territory or if one stays in the same place for a while, she reacts very negatively to strangers (especially men) and dogs, and she shields “her” people. Overall, Mila is a herding dog through and through. If you love her for what she is and can deal with the problems that come with her in an environment that is inherently unsuitable for such dogs, you should definitely meet the charming “little” heartbreaker. Do you think you are the right person for Mila or would you like to get to know her better?.

About Mila

What life with Mila looks like

Mila is a extra-large young adult caucasian shepherd dog dog waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires experienced handler familiar with livestock guardian breeds. Leash reactive with frontal dog encounters. Territorial and protective behavior needs management.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mila, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mila?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mila on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mila if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mila already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mila isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mila and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
