Miranda

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 4 months

As Miranda was found, the delicate, elegant Podenco was on the move with two puppies. Abandoned by hunters after the season, the female dog mother, who was barely two years old (as of 09/2021), had never really grown up herself. Fortunately, the trio ended up in the care of our friends from Puntanimals in Huelva and can now look forward to a much better future. Miranda is a very special girl who seeks equally special people. The gentle and affectionate female dog has not experienced much beauty in her life so far, but she is gradually understanding that the two-legged beings she lives with now truly mean well. Miranda has probably never felt a loving hand, but has often experienced that hands can hit and feet can kick. That explains why the curious and friendly princess is extremely afraid when people move quickly, and yes, she is still very skittish when it comes to the unknown. But Miranda is fighting her way into life - into that of a really great family dog. She seeks the company of her humans, is already going for walks with a lot of fun, lets herself be calmly put on a harness and loves to hunt lizards in the garden. As a typical Podenco, she becomes almost invisible in the house, barks almost never and loves to watch everything that happens in her home. Although she reacts to cats outside and would love to show how fast a coursing dog can actually be, we are almost sure that Miranda would have no problems at all with confident indoor cats in the house. Miranda is looking for a home with very understanding people who give her the time to build friendships at her own pace (which then become especially close), discover and conquer her world, and who know that they cannot change Miranda's past, but can do a lot for her present and her future. Our wonderful bat-eared one is ready to turn a new page. Would you like to find out how Miranda's story continues and what colorful adventures await our friendly Podenco?

DE·Show original

About Miranda

What life with Miranda looks like

Miranda is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Miranda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Miranda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Miranda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Miranda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Miranda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Miranda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Miranda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
