Jellybean

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

* for an explanation, please read Why we are cautious about placing our foreign dogs with families with young children. Information: Jellybean came to Elisa's animal shelter as a pup and has had little contact with people since then. We have met her several times at the animal shelter and it is very sad to see how poor socialization has affected this little girl. She is extremely gentle and loving, but finds new people, situations and things exciting. If you take the time to be calm with her, she will thaw quite quickly. She really wants contact, but needs some time to actually dare to do so. She is very curious and loves to sniff, so you can help her become more confident with that. Do you still have a warm blanket left to help Jellybean thaw out? Our most recent meeting with Jellybean was in January 2026. In the kennel run she really wants contact but is also unsure. Initially, our colleagues, sitting in the kennel run, ignored her - that is why she could sniff them freely. During a subsequent visit in the same week, little Jellybean allowed herself to be petted (see the videos further down this page). Our team members also took her for a walk, just like during previous visits. That went surprisingly well! Jellybean was more confident and oriented towards contact during the walk than in the kennel run. Jellybean is receiving daily pet therapy this week (18-25 January '26):

About Jellybean

What life with Jellybean looks like

Jellybean is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Straydogs Rescue Nederland in RC Nieuwe Pekela.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jellybean, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jellybean?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Straydogs Rescue Nederland handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jellybean on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jellybean if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Straydogs Rescue Nederland will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jellybean already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jellybean isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Straydogs Rescue Nederland early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jellybean and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
