Mischling Louis &#8211

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

I am male, microchipped, and born around 2019. I am approximately 60 cm tall. I have been in search of a sponsor since November 2021. My caretakers say about me: Louis is a foster dog from a neighboring shelter. Originally, he came from abroad. The actual foster shelter found it challenging to manage his care. He lives with us alongside a male dog who has a similar past. He is also compatible with female dogs. Louis still has a long way to go. By now, he has learned to trust and is accustomed to a leash and collar. He enjoys walks and his playtime with his canine buddy. Then he is also watchful. He finds people interesting and has grown accustomed to us, even inviting his trusted people for cuddles. During introductions, he has been uncomplicated, but requires a start phase where he is not pressured. If he is allowed to approach a person, he might already sniff them to see if they could be nice. If he feels threatened, he will take off. He calms down quickly in familiar surroundings. During his care, we have noticed that he needs routine in his daily life. He bonds strongly with his human, and a bit of a herding dog could also be in him. He does not appear to be an anxious dog, but at his core, he still is and must be treated as such initially. If it feels uncomfortable to him, if there is too much commotion, he will attempt to avoid closeness through a small nudge or threat. Therefore, we are looking for a home with structure, preferably rural or on the outskirts of town. Ideally, a family with older children and the willingness to continue habituating Louis to all environmental stimuli. A visit to a good dog training class is assumed because of the contact with fellow animals and professional support at the beginning. In him lies the potential to completely leave his past behind. Since he is food-friendly, we see a lot of potential for a normal and stress-free dog life for our Louis. Who would like to take our Snow Leopard to explore the great wide world?

About Mischling Louis &#8211

What life with Mischling Louis &#8211 looks like

Mischling Louis &#8211 is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mischling Louis &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mischling Louis &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mischling Louis &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mischling Louis &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mischling Louis &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mischling Louis &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mischling Louis &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
