Miss Parsnip2011 | Skewbald | Shetland | Under 10hhThere will always be people who take on too many animals and in so doing, they risk neglecting their needs and cause suffering. We want to be in a position to respond at times like this one, in order to protect horses and ponies, no matter what the circumstances – your sponsorship means we can continue to do that. Please sponsor Miss Parsnip if you can – the training she underwent with us to become a safe riding pony takes time and cost money, however, a well-trained pony is far more likely to find a bright future. The story so far...In early March 2020 we received a call from one of our supporters, who had been contacted by a family member, working as a power company engineer. He had been working in a remote location and came across a large shed. Peering into the darkness he had found several ponies in filthy conditions, barricaded into their stalls. When we spoke to him, he described how the muck was so deep there had been rails attached across the doorways to prevent the ponies escaping over the doors! The smell of ammonia, even on a cold day had caught his attention. There was no way to access them to take a proper look but he was ve

About Miss Parsnip

What life with Miss Parsnip looks like

Miss Parsnip is a large senior horse waiting at Here4Horses in United Kingdom.

Adopting a horse is a long-term commitment that almost always requires either land or a boarding stable. The shelter will discuss the horse's training level, vet history, and what kind of work or companionship they're suited for. Expect ongoing costs: feed, farrier, vet, and stabling.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Miss Parsnip, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Miss Parsnip?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Here4Horses handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Miss Parsnip on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Miss Parsnip if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Here4Horses will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Miss Parsnip already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most horses on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Miss Parsnip isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Here4Horses early rather than rehoming privately; they know Miss Parsnip and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
