Missy – Available – North East

English Bulldog · Female · Adult · 5 years

Dogs name: Missy Age: 5 years old Current location: Sunderland. I CAN LIVE WITH Children: Yes, calm and dog savvy children. Cats: Untested. Dogs: No. A BIT ABOUT ME Personality: Missy is an absolute cuddle‑bug who adores every bit of affection you’re willing to give — strokes, massages, kisses, and especially tummy rubs, which are her idea of pure bliss. She loves children and interacts beautifully with them; sometimes she gets a little excited and forgets her size, but a gentle “sit” and “gentle” is all she needs before settling down to watch TV right beside them. This lovely girl is friendly to her core. She believes every person she meets is there to say hello and give her a fuss, and she returns the favour with endless licks, kisses, and that heart‑melting bulldog devotion. Missy follows her humans everywhere, always curious about what you’re doing — checking your shopping bags, supervising parcel‑opening, or plonking herself on anything big enough to sit on. As her confidence has grown in foster, her cheeky, mischievous side has blossomed too, and when the zoomies hit, she’s a joyful little tornado. Missy loves the sunshine and now feels confident enough to relax in the garden on her own (with the door open), often chasing wood pigeons off the fence like it’s her personal mission. She enjoys her walks, takes them in her stride, and is wonderfully confident out and about. Missy is a loving, affectionate, people‑oriented girl who is ready to bring joy, laughter, and endless cuddles to the family lucky enough to call her their own. Behaviour: Missy is a clever girl who proudly shows off her “sit,” “paw,” and “wait,” especially when crossing roads or working for a treat — though her patience lasts about three adorable seconds before her excitement takes over. She also knows “down,” but like any self‑respecting bulldog, she occasionally pretends she didn’t hear you, giving you that classic selective‑hearing sass that makes her so endearing. She absolutely loves her toys — fetch, chew sticks, soft toys, you name it — and she plays beautifully. Missy has her favourites, but she’s never possessive; you can pick them up, move them, or take them away, and she’ll simply wiggle with excitement, hoping it means playtime. Every now and then she can get a little over‑enthusiastic, but a firm “no,” followed by calmly walking away, is all she needs to reset and settle. She’s a bright, loving girl who just wants to please, play, and be part of a family who understands her heart. Needs: Missy is searching for a calm yet active family who truly understands her breed and wants to grow alongside her, offering the perfect balance of gentle reassurance and shared adventure. She settles well on her own, but after having someone home most of the day, she’s grown to love the comfort of regular company and the feeling of not being alone. Missy is a sensitive girl with a big heart, and because she’s highly anxious and fearful around other dogs, she needs to be the only princess in her home — a place where she can finally relax, feel safe, and be loved just as she is. A secure garden is essential for her, giving her a peaceful space to explore, unwind, and enjoy the outdoors at her own pace. Walk/exercise: Missy is a wonderful walking companion who trots beautifully on the lead and loves nothing more than exploring the world nose‑first — she wants to smell everything, and it’s part of her charm. She happily walks 3–4 miles with a couple of little breaks, enjoys a drink along the way, and feels most at peace in parks, fields, and open spaces where she can take in all the scents and sights. She’s confident out and about, and she’s walked with different family members and friends, taking it all in her stride. Her reactions to other dogs can vary: sometimes she’ll pass by without a second glance, and other times she’ll freeze, stare, and pull with a small growl — usually when the other dog is barking or approaching too quickly. It’s her way of saying she’s unsure, and with understanding, space, and calm handling, she settles again. Missy is a bright, curious girl who loves being out in the world, and with the right family who understands her needs, she’ll blossom into the most loyal, loving adventure buddy. Toilet trained: Yes, Missy is a good girl. She can have an accident when left for long periods and at night so a good routine is important. Travel: Missy has travelled by public transport and in a car. She may pant to begin with but a little reassurance she soon settles. We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs. **TRANSPORTING DURING WARMER WEATHER IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE CAR AS COOL AS POSSIBLE** Things to be aware of: Missy suffers from allergies, she must stay on her current medication Zenrelia and diet of Purina Hypoallergenic. During allergy season she may need Piriton. Missy may require lower lid entropion surgery in the future, it is important to keep her weight under control to prevent this. Should she need it, it will be the responsibility of her owners. Sometimes Missy is excited to play but she doesn’t realise her size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as she has the potential to jump and knock children over. Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted. Additional information from Missy’s foster family: Missy has been a pleasure to have in our home, she melts your heart as soon as you meet her, she’s such a loving girl, we will miss those sloppy kisses, and cuddles but we can’t wait to see you happy with your forever family, they will be so lucky to get such a beautiful girl like her. Missy’s adoption donation fee is £450 and will need to be paid in full prior to her going home which will also be subject to a home check. **Every dog rehomed by GBSR receives Rescue Back-up for their whole Life. We were contacted by several people asking if we could help this little girl after she was handed in to a dog warden as a “stray” Sadly, this is something we’re seeing more and more. After further investigation and checking her microchip details, it turned out that the person who handed her in had only recently rehomed her—and no longer wanted her. The most important thing is that Missy is now safe and in our care. A huge thank you to the dog warden for getting her to safety, to Amanda—one of our amazing volunteers in the North East—and to Hayley, Missy’s new foster mum, for stepping in so quickly. We’re also so grateful to Middlesbrough Council and the dog wardens for helping us secure her safety. Missy is settling into her new surroundings and has been enjoying the sunshine in the garden over the past couple of days. She’s already showing what a loving and affectionate girl she is. Missy is 4 years old and currently unspayed. We’ll be getting her booked in with the vets as soon as possible for a full check-up. She does have a skin condition on her back and some sore paws but with plenty of TLC, we’ll have her feeling much better in no time. For now, please join us in welcoming Missy Missy is currently in foster, and we won’t be taking applications just yet. Once she has completed her assessment, we’ll open applications and update our social media and website when she’s ready to find her forever home. About Missy – Available – North East

What life with Missy – Available – North East looks like

Missy – Available – North East is a extra-large adult english bulldog dog waiting at Geordie Bullies Springboard Rescue in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Missy – Available – North East, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Missy – Available – North East?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Geordie Bullies Springboard Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Missy – Available – North East on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Missy – Available – North East if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Geordie Bullies Springboard Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Missy – Available – North East already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Missy – Available – North East isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Geordie Bullies Springboard Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Missy – Available – North East and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
