Adopt Mogli

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 11 years

Mopsmix Mogli was rehomed to Leipzig in May 2015. His new owners are so smitten, it's already sad. ————————————————————————————— My name is Mogli and I was found in the surrounding area and came here to the animal shelter, where I have been waiting for a new home since the end of 2014. This is what my caretakers say about me: At first, we thought his owner would contact us soon, but nothing happened. Surely Mogli has moved from the cute phase into the 'I also work' phase and was thus disposed of cheaply. Initially, it became clear that being alone still needs to be trained and he also demands attention loudly. Now he lives with other dogs, making being alone easier, and he gladly gets attention from his dog friends. In the new home, training must still continue, although everything has already improved. Mogli generally runs in a pack, but quickly considers himself a Mastiff and presents himself as a classic tough guy - small, but so dangerous... He likes to bark and needs clear instructions in this area, then everything works perfectly. We are looking for people who do not just see Mogli as a sweet puppy, but as what he is, a dog. With dog training classes, love, consistency, fun and play, Mogli can become a fantastic family dog and not one of those little dogs that can be so annoying. Ideally, Mogli is looking for a home as a second dog; as a single dog, more work is needed, then that is also an option. Of course, you should then look for dog friends in the neighborhood with whom Mogli can really play in true manly fashion... eMail:

About Mogli

What life with Mogli looks like

Mogli is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mogli, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mogli?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mogli on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mogli if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mogli already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mogli isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mogli and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
