Möhre

American Staffordshire Terrier · Male · Young · 3 years

The young Amstaff male dog has unfortunately been a real "Wanderpokal," having already had at least six different owners with his good one and a half years. Möhre has unfortunately—likely due to his past history—developed deeply rooted compulsive behavior. He tries to destroy and eat inanimate objects (from leaves, pine cones, cigarette butts, and cans to metal bowls and dog houses, etc.). Currently, he can only manage to free himself from his compulsions for short periods and is then a very people-oriented, friendly, and lively dog. Möhre greets strangers and other dogs kindly and openly, or is uninterested when he is compulsively focused on something else. With much routine and structure, the young male dog has now, under the guidance of his trusted people, managed to shift his focus away from the less important objects and is attentive and eager during training. For Möhre, we are looking for people who, ideally, have already dealt with similar behavioral issues. A quiet, rural environment with little distraction would certainly benefit him in relaxing and continuing to work on his problems. Möhre is a poor, tormented soul and is severely limited in his quality of life due to his compulsions. Would you like to help the handsome fellow escape his mental prison and finally experience the beautiful aspects of life? Do you think you are the right person for Möhre or would you like to get to know them better?

About Möhre

What life with Möhre looks like

Möhre is a medium-sized young adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Severe compulsive disorder - compulsively destroys and eats inanimate objects including leaves, pinecones, cigarette butts, cans, metal bowls, and dog houses. Requires experienced owner and rural environment with minimal distractions.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Möhre, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Möhre?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Möhre on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Möhre if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Möhre already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Möhre isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Möhre and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
