Mons

Mixed Breed · Male

Mons. A warm, friendly, and loyal boy who is looking for a safe home. Needs good and safe outdoor opportunities. Hello, my name is Mons. Once I had a home. But when my humans moved, they chose to leave me behind. Outside and completely alone. Still, I always stayed in what was my neighborhood. Hoping that my family would come back one day. Eventually, I realized they wouldn't come back and sought refuge in a garage, but when the biting winter cold set in, I found my way in through a cat flap in a house in the area. There I lay on the sofa to get warm before going out again. I tried to be friends with the people who lived there before, but without success. I understood that I wasn't really wanted there. But when the alternative is -15°C, you don't have many choices. It wasn't easy for those who wanted to help me get close enough. Maybe because I had learned that people are not always to be trusted. Still, I never gave up on them completely. I stayed nearby, followed from a distance, and eventually became attached to those who showed me kindness. I had managed, but it was clear that I longed for more than just surviving. Now I have finally landed in my foster home, and there I have shown who I really am.

Mons.

About Mons

What life with Mons looks like

Mons is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo in Oslo.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇴Adopting from Norway

Norwegian rescues require thorough background checks. Animals leave with a Nordic pet passport and full vetting. Norway is outside the EU so import rules differ slightly — TRACES applies.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mons, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mons?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mons on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mons if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mons already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mons isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mons and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NO). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
