Morpheus

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Morpheus is a microchipped and vaccinated Maremma Shepherd mix with thick white fur. He has not been spayed/neutered yet, but will be before adoption. Personality: Upon arrival, Morpheus was very anxious about his new environment and wasn't very friendly towards people. However, with some work and effort, he quickly warmed up to a couple of people and learned to interact with them properly and pleasantly. He is being trained by a dog instructor to help him improve further. He has learned to wear a harness and enjoy walks in our enclosures and on leash outside the shelter. He pulls a bit, and due to his physical strength, it takes some effort to manage him. He lacks experience, but he will learn about the world over time. Ideal Adoption: We are looking for serious and motivated people who won't give up in the face of challenges, have experience with dogs and preferably with guardian breeds; who are willing to complete a pre-adoption process at the shelter and potentially be accompanied by a professional if needed. He is not an easy dog, he isn’t suitable for everyone, but with the right effort, he will give satisfaction. Not recommended for young children. He prefers quiet family environments and outdoor walks over city life. As far as we can see so far, he doesn't get along well with other dogs, male or female; if someone is interested in adopting a female dog, the situation would be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and a compatibility test would be required to be done at the shelter in the presence of an operator. We don’t rule out apartment living, but he would do better in a house with a garden so that he has more space; he will still need to live indoors with his family and get daily walks for his mental and physical well-being.

Meglio no bambini piccoli. Bene contesti abitativi e famigliari tranquilli.

About Morpheus

What life with Morpheus looks like

Morpheus is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at ENPA Monza e Brianza in Monza.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Morpheus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Morpheus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ENPA Monza e Brianza handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Morpheus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Morpheus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ENPA Monza e Brianza will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Morpheus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Morpheus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ENPA Monza e Brianza early rather than rehoming privately; they know Morpheus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
