Mozart (FIV positiv)

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 5 years

Mozart came to us as an unneutered stray tomcat. He probably lived on the streets and likely contracted feline AIDS there. Unfortunately, this disease is very common among unneutered outdoor cats. Tomcats, in particular, are highly vulnerable to infection due to their territorial fights, as the virus is transmitted through scratch and bite wounds. Mozart is still quite reserved at the moment. However, we believe that with a bit of patience, he could become a more approachable cat. First, he needs to feel truly settled here, and his injuries must heal completely. He also has severely decayed and broken teeth, which is why dental treatment needs to be carried out as soon as possible. After that, hopefully he’ll feel much better, because those teeth must have been causing him a lot of pain. Unfortunately, because of his illness, Mozart can only be kept with cats who are also infected with the same virus. At the moment, though, we can’t yet determine whether he’d even accept any company at all—certainly not another tomcat. Since FIV weakens the immune system, his life expectancy is limited.

About Mozart (FIV positiv)

What life with Mozart (FIV positiv) looks like

Mozart (FIV positiv) is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Kolner Tierschutzverein in Köln.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mozart (FIV positiv), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mozart (FIV positiv)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kolner Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mozart (FIV positiv) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mozart (FIV positiv) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kolner Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mozart (FIV positiv) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mozart (FIV positiv) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kolner Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mozart (FIV positiv) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
