Mr Bo

Male · Adult · 5 years

Mr. Bo was an impulsive eBay Kleinanzeigen purchase. From the previous owners, we know that these have already been his 4th home. He reportedly suffers from separation anxieties and cannot stay alone well. He shows himself at the animal shelter as a friendly and energetic dog. He loves water. Mr. Bo is a very active dog who must be heavily exercised with long walks and hiking. We could also envision dog sports like agility for him, as he shows no fear and has fun with tunnels, swings, etc., at the animal shelter. Mr. Bo shows a very strong prey drive at the animal shelter. Therefore, there should not be any other animals in his new home. According to the previous owners, he can barely stay alone. At the animal shelter, he is open, friendly, and welcoming to people. Mr. Bo is also open and friendly to other dogs at the animal shelter. However, his final decision is based on mutual liking. With the previous owners, he reportedly played well with other similarly sized fellow animals. However, he has always lived as a single dog so far. Due to his hunting instinct, his lead training still needs to be practiced. He knows the sit and down commands and is partially recallable. In his new home, experienced dog owners should be present who are aware that he still requires a lot of work. With clear rules, calmness, and patience, a lot can still be achieved with him. Due to his hunting drive, an existing garden should be escape-proof.

About Mr Bo

What life with Mr Bo looks like

Mr Bo is a large adult dog waiting at Tierheim Dortmund in Dortmund.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Severe separation anxiety, cannot be left alone, strong prey drive, needs secure fencing

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mr Bo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mr Bo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Dortmund handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mr Bo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mr Bo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Dortmund will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mr Bo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mr Bo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Dortmund early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mr Bo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
