Gone he was. The dog. Simply slipped through the collar in a moment of excitement. Such a collar or a too large harness doesn't hold very well on a small portion of a shelter dog, especially not in the prettiest city park. A sound is enough here amidst the streets and people, where everything is still unfamiliar. And suddenly, in the heat of the moment, such a dog slips through the soft leather strap and reflexively seeks the wide open. That was always a good idea back then when on the run from dog catchers in a foreign land. Then panic sets in for everyone, long search operations, search dogs, social media, flyers, calling, waiting until the night. Until finally the relieving call comes: A dog has been seen, exactly in this park, he is probably still there. And with luck, he hears the owner's calls this time and runs back with flapping ears and great joy into the saving arms. What an adventure! With a safety harness, this wouldn't have happened, assuming it fits properly. Fazit: Just when it comes to shelter dogs, just at the beginning (really from the first day), instead of a collar, a dog harness should be put on, and it should be in the best possible fit.

Weg war er. Der Hund. Einfach so durchs Halsband durchgeschlüpft in einem Moment der Aufregung. So ein Halsband oder ein zu großes Geschirr hält nicht besonders gut an einer kleinen Portion Tierschutzhund, auch nicht im schönsten Stadtpark. Ein Geräusch reicht aus, hier inmitten von Straßen und Leuten, wo alles noch fremd ist. Und schon ist so ein Hund im Eifer des Gefechts durch das weiche Lederband durchgeschlüpft und hat reflexartig das Weite gesucht. Das war früher mal immer eine gute Idee, damals im Ausland auf der Flucht vor den Hundefängern. Dann folgt Panik bei allen, lange Suchaktionen, Suchhunde, Social Media, Flugblätter, Rufen, Warten bis in die Nacht hinein. Bis irgendwann der erleichternde Anruf kommt: So ein Hund wurde gesehen, genau in diesem Park, er ist bestimmt noch da. Und mit Glück hört er diesmal die Rufe des Besitzers und rast mit wehenden Ohren und großer Freude zurück in die rettenden Arme. Was für ein Abenteuer! Mit Sicherheitsgeschirr wäre das nicht passiert, vorausgesetzt, es hat die passende Größe … Fazit: gerade bei Tierschutzhunden, gerade am Anfang (also wirklich vom ersten Tag an), anstelle Halsband ein Hundegeschirr zulegen und zwar in der bestmöglichen Passform.
