Mr. Brooks

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy

Mr. Brooks is a large, imposing male who is generally friendly to his caregivers. He is often excited and aware of his strength, so Brooks absolutely needs people who are physically capable of handling him. The male is quite strong-willed and needs confident adopters who he can look up to. He can generally establish a bond with his human, but this is still developing. Mr. Brooks has a strong territorial instinct. He absolutely needs a securely fenced property. There was a past incident where Brooks jumped over a fence and injured a passing dog and its owner. Outside of fenced areas, he must wear a muzzle due to his classification. His adopters must have a certificate of competence for keeping dangerous dogs! Mr. Brooks generally gets along with other dogs and females, but the dogs cannot be too small, or they will trigger a prey drive. Cats or small animals should not live in the new home. Brooks must be very careful with toys and similar objects. He becomes extremely excited at the sight of such objects and falls into a frenzied state that lasts until the object is destroyed. Brooks knows the standard basic commands, but his restless nature makes it difficult for him to execute the commands reliably. Brooks can be motivated by food. He would benefit from calm adopters who have a lot of patience to work with him and calm him down. He will certainly develop into a great companion. If you are interested in one of our dogs, please contact us by email. Describe how the dog will live with you in the email and send us a phone number. A caregiver will then contact you. Animal descriptions are based on observations in the animal shelter or information from third parties and do not represent guaranteed characteristics.

About Mr. Brooks

What life with Mr. Brooks looks like

Mr. Brooks is a small puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Leipzig in Leipzig.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mr. Brooks, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mr. Brooks?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Leipzig handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mr. Brooks on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mr. Brooks if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Leipzig will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Mr. Brooks already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mr. Brooks isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Leipzig early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mr. Brooks and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
