Adopt Murphy

Collie · Male · Puppy · 12 months

Murphy is a bright, bouncy Rough Collie Cross with a huge personality and even bigger energy levels. He’s clever, affectionate, and always ready for an adventure. If you’re looking for a dog who will join you on every walk, run, hike, or training session, Murphy is your guy. This high energy boy has become over excited in different situations. He is looking for new owners who can provide plenty of physical exercise and mental stimulation. He is full of potential and will need ongoing training to help him channel that energy in the right direction. He is looking for his new home to have a private and secure garden to give him the space he needs to continue training and burn off his energy. Routines will also be important for Murphy’s development and learning calm behaviours in general. Structured toy play, down time and training sessions in the home will come in handy to help him settle into his new home and grow into a well-rounded adult. Murphy has an anxious side and in his previous home he struggled with noise sensitivity and being left alone. New owners will need to go slow when introducing him to new environments and give him time to settle in before gradually building up his time alone, providing him a safe space to retreat to and slowly desensitize him to household noises. He has been social during his time with us around other dogs, he has shown to be playful and read other dogs well. As he is still young and working on manners around dogs, we feel he would be able to live with another dog who can be a positive role model for Murphy and show him the ropes in his new home. While Murphy is looking for his new owners to support his ongoing development and training, he has all the qualities to become a loyal and fulfilling companion for his new family. About Murphy

What life with Murphy looks like

Murphy is a large puppy/kitten collie dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Murphy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Murphy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Murphy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Murphy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Murphy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Murphy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Murphy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
