Truso

Collie · Male · Senior · 11 years

Truso is a very handsome Collie cross Labrador who has found himself back at Many Tears looking for his perfect retirement home. Originally adopted from us as an 8-week-old pup, this gentle soul spent a full decade in a loving home before circumstances changed and his family sadly felt they could no longer meet his needs. Understandably, Truso was overwhelmed to return to kennels after so long, but he is began to settle and reminded us all of what a wonderful companion he truly is. Truso is young at heart and still full of life. His favourite game is fetch, and he would happily spend hours chasing a tennis ball. He can be quite vocal, especially when he’s excited or trying to get your attention, and he's a clever lad who has learned that barking can bring rewards. Because of this, Truso will need experienced adopters who are willing to work gently and consistently with him using positive reinforcement to help guide him towards calmer, quieter habits. He is incredibly affectionate and thrives on companionship, whether it’s through play or simply enjoying a fuss. After so many years in a warm and familiar home, being in kennels has been a tough adjustment. What Truso longs for now is a quiet, adult-only home where he can feel safe, secure, and loved again. Truso can be homed as an only dog, and may prefer it this way. However, he can be homed with another kind resident dog that isn't overly boisterous or constantly in his face, as he likes his space and absolutely no cats in the home. He loves his walks and would suit an active home where he can enjoy daily adventures and plenty of mental stimulation. In his past, Truso did show some anxious behaviours and had a few incidents involving nipping, though these occurred several years ago. We are told there was one incident in his previous home where he had a fight with another dog in the home, but this was very out of character for him. His previous owners noted that he mellowed significantly with age. He finds vet visits particularly stressful and may require sedation to help him cope, but he’s a good boy who, with reassurance, can get through it. For example, when he recently needed cream on a sore patch, he calmly accepted a muzzle and let us treat him without a fuss. Truso has a few harmless fatty lumps, called lipomas, which don’t require treatment, but it’s important to know that these will be considered pre-existing conditions and may not be covered by pet insurance. He is now on vitamins for his joints as he is experience some age related stiffness and arthritis. This lovely boy is believed to be house trained but may need a little time to adjust and settle into his new routine. With time, patience, and lots of love, Truso will no doubt flourish again. He is a loyal, affectionate companion who just needs someone to believe in him and offer him the chance to enjoy his golden years in comfort and peace. If you have experience with sensitive dogs and the space in your heart and home for an older gentleman who still loves to play, please consider giving Truso the second chance he so deeply deserves. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Truso

What life with Truso looks like

Truso is a large senior collie dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: History of anxiety and previous nipping incidents, needs quiet adult-only home with consistent positive training

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Truso, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Truso?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Truso on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Truso if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Truso already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Truso isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Truso and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
