Murphy

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Senior · 12 years

Murphy is a sweet, cuddly boy who loves to be involved in all the fun. He loves a game of tug of war and knows a few tricks which he loves to practice for treats. He loves to explore the outdoors and would enjoy going on adventures with his new family to forests and beaches. Murphy is such an affectionate boy, but he can be worried by overhandling, so will need owners who know how to read his body language and give him space when he needs it. Murphy is very conflicted by other dogs and prefers the company of his people. For this reason, his new family would need to be confident in supporting him with his social skills when out and about. All training will be supported by the staff in our centre when coming in for meets. Murphy is a really affectionate lad who is missing his home comforts, and we can’t wait for him to find his perfect forever home where he can get all the fuss and love he deserves! Meet Murphy, our handsome 12 year old Staffy. He is a super sweet boy who is looking for a nice comfy sofa to spend his days and nights lounging on. He loves playing tug-of-war with his toys and there’s nothing he enjoys more than a sofa snuggle and a back scratch! Murphy would prefer all children in the home to be older secondary school aged and know when to give him the space he needs. He is looking to be the only dog in the home as he can be underconfident around other dogs. He would love it if his new family are able to take him on walks in quieter areas, so he can enjoy sniffing and exploring without being worried by too many other dogs.

About Murphy

What life with Murphy looks like

Murphy is a senior staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Murphy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Murphy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Murphy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Murphy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Murphy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Murphy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Murphy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
