Adopt Nala

Mastiff · Female · Puppy · 18 months

She is big but very gentle and has a shy nature. She is looking for a family used to larger dogs but that have experience with rescue or nervous dogs. Nala can be easily worried or overwhelmed but with gentle patient love and care she is so affectionate, we know that the right person will snap her up! Once she gets to know you and starts to feel more confident, Nala loves to play with her toys and gets so zoomy, running back and forth throwing her toy in the air, she looks like a puppy when she plays! Her innocence shines through and never fails to make us laugh! Nala is a little worried by other dogs so would benefit from some help learning to make friends. She walks well on the lead but prefers to keep distance from other dogs out and about. She is just the sweetest girl and we really hope someone will see past her shy exterior and see the affectionate playful soul we see underneath! Staff are here to ensure the animals find homes which suit their needs. Most animals in our care have not had the best start in life and may require special care or training. We will assess your experience and assist you in finding the right pet for your home. Although we want to start their new life with you as quickly as possible, our re-homing process can take a few weeks from start to finish. The process is as follows:

About Nala

What life with Nala looks like

Nala is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mastiff dog waiting at RSPCA Danaher Animal Home in Braintree.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

Note from the shelter: Requires patient, experienced owner familiar with large breeds and nervous dogs. Needs help socializing with other dogs.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nala, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nala?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Danaher Animal Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nala on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nala if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Danaher Animal Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nala already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nala isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Danaher Animal Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nala and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
