Betty

Mastiff · Female · Adult · 6 years

Meet our little Chi lady Betty! This sweet girl is looking for a quiet and loving home where she can rest her tiny paws and enjoy plenty of human lap time. Betty is a nervous girl who has had limited exposure to the outside world, so she is looking for a family who can help her gain confidence at her own pace. She will need her own private garden and a quiet location to help her feel safe and comfortable while she settles into her new home. Betty is worried by other dogs and can find it difficult when they are keen to meet her and don't read her body language when she needs some space. She would prefer to be the only dog in the home, but can continue to meet respectful dogs in quiet areas and build her social skills at her own pace. Betty is looking for owners who have the time, commitment and dedication to help her come out of her shell and understand how best to approach her. She could potentially live with sensible teenagers who understand when to give her space. She may also be able to live with a calm and independent cat. With some TLC, patience and guidance, we know little Betty will blossom into a lovely companion and be the perfect addition to the right home. If you have already completed our online rehoming form and would like to know more about Betty, you can e-mail our rehoming team on to register your interest.

About Betty

What life with Betty looks like

Betty is a very small adult mastiff dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Betty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Betty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Betty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Betty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Betty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Betty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Betty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
