Nebraska

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Spring in Spain, this is the time of warm evenings, colorful blossoms, Penas marching through the streets with cheerful music... but also the bullfights, which are allowed despite Corona and state-subsidized, and the cruelly disposed of hunting dogs, mainly Galgos and Podencos, who are hanged in trees to suffocate painfully or tied up in remote areas or left with broken legs to slowly die of thirst. The suffering of the dogs is unimaginable, and the fear of the animal welfare workers on site during this season is no lesser. Our lovely, one-year-old (as of 03/2022) Nebraska, a beautiful blonde Galga, is also a discarded hunting dog. Nebraska was found in a village near Seville, where she searched the trash cans for food and skillfully avoided humans. A rescuer from Arca, who lives very close by, started feeding the long-legged beauty and managed to get closer to the swift girl day by day. When she finally placed her hand on Nebraska's dirty fur and the caramel-colored little girl did not immediately flee, the patient helper knew it was now possible and Nebraska could be relocated to Arca Sevilla. Upon arrival at the animal shelter, Nebraska now shows a completely different picture. She is still reserved, but has learned to trust the volunteers at record speed, relying on the fact that the time of beating and food searching is over - and that petting is a wonderful thing. Nebraska is an intelligent, cuddly princess who really enjoys playing with other animals and, typical of a greyhound, sometimes just lies in the sun and watches what's happening around her. She loves it when someone from the staff sits down next to her and strokes her silky fur while Nebraska's large, already very experienced-looking eyes scan the scene. Nebraska deserves to experience a completely different life than that of a hunting dog in Andalusia, namely as a beloved family dog, without fear of beatings, without chase hunts through dense undergrowth, with cuddles, long walks, fun car rides, exciting ball games - all those nice things that were denied to her so far. We would be extremely happy if this cheerful and friendly girl, who is so approachable to people, finds a home where she has many joyful years by the side of humans, valued as the best friend and real counterpart, unconditionally loved and spoiled. Can you help us make this dream come true?

About Nebraska

What life with Nebraska looks like

Nebraska is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nebraska, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nebraska?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nebraska on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nebraska if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nebraska already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nebraska isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nebraska and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
