Adopt Nelio

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

ProfileAge: born around January 2026. Gender: male. Neutered: noCharacter: very friendly, typical of a puppySize: still growing, probably medium-sized at maturityAt the shelter since: May 2026Family: Mom Maribel and sister ElaydaI am the little Nelio. Not long ago, I didn't know if the world was good or dangerous. I only knew that I had to follow my mom and always stay close to my little sister. But where we were, it was noisy. Huge cars rushed past us, the ground vibrated under my small paws, and everywhere there was the smell of fear and dust.On this sunny May holiday, I ran across the big road. Maybe I just wanted to see what was on the other side. Maybe I hoped to find some food there. Maybe I simply didn't know how dangerous this world could be for such a small puppy like me.Then, suddenly, people stopped. They came slowly towards us, spoke kindly, and gently petted me. I wasn't afraid. Something told me that these people were different. My mom trusted them immediately - and if mom trusts, then it can't be wrong. So we were allowed to come with them.Once at the shelter, we were put into a small box first. I was so tired... my sister cuddled up with mom and I put my head on her paws. For the first time in a long time, I could simply sleep, without constantly being afraid of cars or dangers. We slept huddled together all afternoon.Later, as the sun slowly disappeared, the people brought us to our new kennel. At first, everything was unfamiliar. New smells, new sounds, a new environment. But we were together. Mom, my sister and me. So I became brave and started exploring everything. In between, I kept coming back to the people, because I liked their hands. I liked the affection. Maybe because they felt like safety. My mom takes wonderful care of us. She always checks first if everything is safe before she lets us go somewhere. And I promise her every day to be brave. But do you know what I dream about at night?Of a home. Of a soft basket that belongs only to me. Of people who call my name and are happy when I come running. Of hands that stroke me when I'm tired. Of walks over green meadows instead of dangerous streets. Of a safe place where my mom no longer has to be constantly afraid.I am still small, but my heart is huge. And I really wish to finally arrive.Maybe somewhere in Germany. Maybe with you exactly?Interested? If you are interested in Nelio, please fill out our interest form () or send us an email at or a message through Facebook. Nelio is ready to travel and can go to Germany with the next transport. Our dogs travel legally with Traces. Traces is the data base system used to monitor all animal traffic within the EU. Furthermore, a rapid test for the following Mediterranean diseases is performed on dogs over 12 months before departure: Borreliosis, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis, Dirofilariasis, and Leishmaniasis. Petra S. A. has taken on the sponsorship of Nelio, thus ensuring a filled bowl. Many thanks on behalf of the dogs!

Dann hielten plötzlich Menschen an. Also durften wir mitkommen. Vielleicht irgendwo in Deutschland. Vielleicht bei genau dir? Interesse geweckt?

About Nelio

What life with Nelio looks like

Nelio is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Seelen für Seelchen e.V. in Alfter.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nelio, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nelio?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Seelen für Seelchen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nelio on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nelio if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Seelen für Seelchen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nelio already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nelio isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Seelen für Seelchen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nelio and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
