Nellie

Border Collie · Female · Young · 1 year

Meet our beautiful 1-year-old Collie girl, who is looking for a patient and understanding home to help her reach her full potential. She is a lovely, typical Collie – intelligent, active and eager to learn. Kennel life has been quite stressful for her, but she is slowly growing in confidence and is beginning to settle into the routine. Due to limited socialisation, she can be unsure around other dogs and may be nippy if they get too close. Because of this, she will need to be walked wearing a muzzle while her new family continues her training and helps her build positive associations with the world around her. She could live with sensible secondary school age children who understand the importance of giving her space when she needs it and will respect her boundaries. As we have no home history for her, she will need support with housetraining and learning how to be left alone gradually. With patience, consistency and kindness, we believe she will make excellent progress. She is looking for an active home that understands the needs of the Collie breed and is committed to continuing her training and confidence-building. In return, you'll gain a loyal, affectionate companion who just needs someone to give her the chance she deserves.

About Nellie

What life with Nellie looks like

Nellie is a young adult border collie dog waiting at Dogs Trust Kenilworth in Kenilworth.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nellie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nellie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Kenilworth handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nellie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nellie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Kenilworth will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nellie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nellie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Kenilworth early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nellie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
