adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt Nelly! adoption requirements adoption process The sweet Nelly has found a home! Her story: At two years old, the little, somewhat shy Nelly is now old and hopes to find a suitable human family on this path. Maybe you are they? The little Velvet Paw, her siblings, and the cat mom narrowly escaped a terrible fate. They lived in a neighborhood where the little family was unfortunately not welcome. Neighbors threatened to poison the kittens and their mom. Of course, they couldn't stay there and were picked up by us. Now they live at one of our foster homes and are waiting for their new home in happiness. Nelly is a rather reserved cat who prefers to observe everything from a distance. Therefore, we wish for loving, patient owners who can give her time to settle in and warm up. Other cats provide her with comfort and security, so she is either rehomed with or to a purring companion. Whether she gets along with dogs, we unfortunately could not test. We see Nelly as a pure indoor cat. She would certainly be happy to observe birds from a safe balcony and bask in the sun. If you also provide her with enough space and climbing opportunities, this is not a prerequisite for rehoming. Nelly hopes to find suitable, understanding people where she can be herself and be loved as she is. Often, the cats that require the most trust later become the most loyal companions. Are you particularly sensitive cat lovers and want to give Nelly a nice home? Then write to us. Nelly can travel at any time and is, like all our cats and tomcats, neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, flea-treated, and tested negative for FIV and FeLV. She also has an EU pet passport and can travel after a positive thank you from Aideen and her children.

About Nelly

What life with Nelly looks like

Nelly is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nelly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nelly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nelly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nelly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nelly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nelly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nelly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
