Nelson

Pointer · Male · Adult · 4 years

Looking for a partner in crime (and cuddles)? Meet Nelson! You know that famous internet dog PHTEVEN? Yeah, well, I’m basically his spiritual twin. When my lip gets stuck on my teeth, it’s my signature goofy look—and trust me, it’s impossible not to laugh. Anyway, I’m Nelson. Born in spring 2022, medium-sized, pointer-mixed, and packing enough charm to win over even the grumpiest neighbour. I’m still a little clumsy (I swear my legs have a mind of their own), but what I lack in coordination, I make up for in pure heart. My hobbies include: • Dramatically shaking my bedding like I just slayed a dragon. • Playing fetch like it’s a competitive sport. • Being unreasonably excited about absolutely everything. I live for the great outdoors—hiking trails, muddy puddles, all of it. If you’re looking for a loyal shadow who checks back to make sure you’re not lost (because someone has to be the responsible one), I’m your guy. lead manners? Improving. Sticks? Still my kryptonite. I’m friendly with other dogs, though I sometimes pretend I’m the boss. (Spoiler: I’m all bark, no bite.) A confident human who’s ready to lead will bring out my best—and once I trust you, you’ll have a friend for life. Bottom line: if you’re after a dog who’s 50% athlete, 50% comedian, and 100% loyal heart, let’s make it official. Rescue life was fine, but I’m ready for the real good stuff: hikes, laughs, naps, and unconditional love.

About Nelson

What life with Nelson looks like

Nelson is a medium-sized adult pointer dog waiting at Mayday Algarve in Algarve.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nelson, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nelson?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Mayday Algarve handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nelson on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nelson if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Mayday Algarve will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Nelson already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nelson isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Mayday Algarve early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nelson and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
