Nick

Mixed Breed · Male

Another ugly injury, another unfortunate little furball. Nick came to us with a broken shoulder. We have no idea what happened to him, but it definitely wasn't pleasant. The surgery he underwent was really long and complicated. After the operation, Nick had to stay at the vet for a few days just to be safe, fortunately there were no complications, and so Nick could move to a temporary uncle for the rest of his recovery. His shoulder healed beautifully. Unfortunately, he started having skin problems, and he developed unsightly bald spots in several places. The tomcat underwent several examinations, and it seems that allergies were to blame. Thanks to a special diet, the bald spots began to grow back, and Nick looked great again. In addition, Nick was absolutely amazing, constantly demanding attention and affection. His leg was great after the operation and he had no trouble walking. To a new home... And then back to us again. Nick found a great home and for a long time it looked like everything was as it should be. Unfortunately, after a year and a half, we received bad news - Nick is returning to us. His owner took a job that required frequent business trips, but Nick is extremely attached to his human and couldn't handle longer separations at all. Every time the owner was away for a few days, he was very sad and even vomited... So Nick is back in temporary care. He had his teeth cleaned and for some time we also looked for the ideal food that wouldn't cause him digestive problems, which we fortunately succeeded in doing. Nick remains in permanent care. Finding the right home for Nick was quite challenging, potential adopters didn't rush to him at all... Why? He's a black tomcat, which unfortunately still turns off many people. To this, he also has chronic health issues, must follow a strict diet, and is sensitive to stress. These things probably completely overshadowed all of Nick's qualities in the eyes of people looking for a feline companion - that he's extremely affectionate, social, well-mannered, and loves his people with all his heart. Meanwhile, in temporary care, he's doing great, he and his auntie have taken a liking to each other and they both love each other very much. Also, the auntie handles all the challenges related to Nick's health issues very well. Therefore, we finally decided that for Nick it would be best if he stays in permanent care and we will no longer look for a new home.

CS·Show original

Mezitím v dočasné péči se mu náramně daří, s tetičkou si navzájem padli do oka a mají jeden druhého moc rádi. Tetička navíc skvěle zvládá i všechny výzvy spojené s Nickovými zdravotními potížemi.

About Nick

What life with Nick looks like

Nick is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Handipet Rescue Hoření Vinice in Czech Republic.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇨🇿Adopting from Czech Republic

Czech shelters (útulky) include sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID. The adopter signs a written contract (smlouva) — the shelter may follow up to verify wellbeing.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nick, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nick?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Handipet Rescue Hoření Vinice handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nick on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nick if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Handipet Rescue Hoření Vinice will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nick already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nick isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Handipet Rescue Hoření Vinice early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nick and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (CS). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
