Nick

Mixed Breed · Male · Kitten · 6 months

This is Nick, a sweet kitten about 6 months old. He was found with his littermates and was allowed to grow up in a nice foster home where he could get used to indoor life in peace. Nick is a very sensitive and cautious kitten. New people, sounds, and situations can seem quite exciting to him. He prefers to watch things calmly before deciding it's safe. When something becomes too much, he can get a bit panicked and retreat. That's why Nick needs a patient owner who gives him time to build trust. He is definitely not a kitten that you just pick up or cuddle extensively. Nick needs to set the pace himself. Chasing or forcing him makes him even more uncertain. Yet, there is a curious kitten behind that scared face. With peace, a safe environment, and of course, something tasty, there is certainly contact to be made with him. Step by step, he can learn that people are not so scary. For Nick, we are looking for a quiet and stable home, without small children. A well-socialized, friendly cat as a companion would be very nice for him. Nick can learn a lot from a confident cat and hopefully feel more and more secure. He could also learn to live with a dog, but only with a calm dog that is used to cats and gives him enough space. Nick may not be the kitten that immediately runs up to you enthusiastically. You have to earn his trust. But the small steps forward make such a big difference. The first time he comes closer on his own, a cautious glance without immediately running away, or eventually maybe a headbutt against your hand... These are small moments, but they mean a lot to Nick. Who has the patience to let Nick discover at his own pace how nice it is to be loved and safe?

NL·Show original

About Nick

What life with Nick looks like

Nick is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Stichting Dierenasiel Gorinchem in Netherlands.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nick, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nick?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting Dierenasiel Gorinchem handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nick on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nick if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting Dierenasiel Gorinchem will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nick already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nick isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting Dierenasiel Gorinchem early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nick and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
