Donna

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

Donna is looking for an adult only home. She could live with another cat, and will potentially require outdoor access once she’s settled in. Donna is a beautiful lady inside and out! She hasn’t been in our care for long, but she’s starting to show signs of being a very loving and affectionate girl. Donna has been through a lot recently, and she was very scared when she arrived in our care. It’s taken her a bit of time to adjust, she was hissing at anyone approaching her, and spent a lot of time hiding in her cat tree, and running away when approached. Donna has just started coming around to our staff, but she’s already felt brave enough to settle down on a lap for a cuddle! When Donna feels comfortable enough around you, she will headbutt your hands and rub her head all over you, knead the floor underneath her paws, and even do little meows asking for attention. Donna also turns into a bit of a drooler when her happiness is overflowing from affection! She can also sometimes gently grab your arm with her paws, and give you a gentle love bite when she gets carried away having a cuddle. We don’t know much about Donna’s past, but we do know that she’s come from a multi-cat household, so she could possibly live with another cat following careful introductions. We don’t know whether she’s had outdoor access in the past, so her new owners will need to be open-minded, and allow her to live as an indoor-only cat, or allow outdoor access once settled if she shows interest in exploring outdoors. Donna will need a calm, quiet and patient adult only home where she can settle down and have plenty of space/time to get used to her new surroundings. We know that once she lets her guard down, she will make a wonderful, loving companion to her new family.

About Donna

What life with Donna looks like

Donna is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Donna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Donna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Donna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Donna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Donna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Donna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Donna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
