Claudia

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Claudia could live with children aged 14+. She would like to be the only pet in the home and is looking for an indoor-only environment. Claudia is a wonderful little lady who heartbreakingly was abandoned here at the shelter, so we have no background information on her previous life. She is blind and our vets suspect she has been so since birth. Claudia does not let her disability inhibit her in any way at all – she is a confident girl who is quick to make friends with everyone she meets! She can get spooked if you go straight in for a stroke, she prefers to have a sniff first and figure out her surroundings and then she’ll soon be purring away and rubbing into you, asking for a fuss! She’s also happy to explore her environment and enjoys treats too. This lovely girl needs a little time to adjust to her surroundings, but once she’s found her feet – she is able to navigate her way around with ease. She would be best suited to a calm and patient family who can give her the patience she needs whilst she’s figuring everything out, and who can cater to the extra adjustments a blind cat may require. Claudia was abandoned at the shelter with another cat who we suspect she has lived with previously. Although the other cat seemed keen to interact, this wasn’t reciprocated by Claudia and so we feel she would be happiest as the only pet in her forever home. This sweet girl has been such a pleasure to spend time with during her time with us here at the shelter. Despite the tough time and all the change she’s had recently, she has so much love to give and doesn’t let anything faze her, she’s a resilient little lady who so deserves to find a forever family who can spoil her rotten and show her the true love, safety and security of a forever home.

About Claudia

What life with Claudia looks like

Claudia is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Claudia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Claudia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Claudia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Claudia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Claudia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Claudia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Claudia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
