Adopt Nico

Mixed Breed · Male

Nico is a sensitive and special tomcat who seeks people with patience and understanding. As an outdoor cat, he enjoys being outside, exploring his surroundings independently. He is more of a loner and feels most comfortable without other animals around. Nico is very delicate and reacts quickly with fear to loud noises or hectic situations – in such cases, he withdraws and prefers to flee. Therefore, he needs a quiet, stable environment without much commotion, where he can settle in at his own pace. He chooses his people himself – once he has gained trust, he shows his gentle and loving side. The quiet evening hours are his favorite time: then he enjoys relaxing on the couch with his people and allowing closeness. For Nico, we wish for a compassionate home with free access to the outdoors in a quiet area, with people who will give him time and accept him as he is. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations. This animal is vaccinated.

About Nico

What life with Nico looks like

Nico is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Tierschutzverein Freital in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nico, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nico?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Tierschutzverein Freital handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nico on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nico if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Tierschutzverein Freital will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nico already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nico isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Tierschutzverein Freital early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nico and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
