Adopt Nigel

German Shorthaired Pointer · Male · Puppy · 11 months

Male, neutered, born around 10.06.2025, Podenco height approximately 56 cm / weight approximately 18 kg. Foster location Spain: Refugio Amposta. The young Podenco Nigel was found on the street in Sant Carles and was brought to Monika's refuge on February 1, 2026. From the beginning, Nigel got along well with all fellow animals. Typical for a young dog, he still has plenty of energy, is playful, and goes about his business carefree. When it comes to humans, he shows some caution at first, but warms up quickly and finds cuddles quite okay after all. Anaïs and Daniela had the opportunity to meet the young pup during their visit to the refuge and were particularly fascinated by his gentle nature and beautiful fur color and pattern. The handsome Nigel should have the opportunity in his new home to move around properly, practice dog-to-dog interactions, and get to know environmental stimuli. Nigel is a typical Podenco who may take more time outdoors to build a good bond with his human and might only rarely be walked without a leash under certain circumstances. If you would like to give the athletic Nigel a dog bed for life, please contact us right away.

About Nigel

What life with Nigel looks like

Nigel is a large puppy/kitten german shorthaired pointer dog waiting at ANDANA Pfotenhilfe Schweiz in Switzerland.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nigel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nigel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ANDANA Pfotenhilfe Schweiz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nigel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nigel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ANDANA Pfotenhilfe Schweiz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nigel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nigel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ANDANA Pfotenhilfe Schweiz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nigel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
