Nijar

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Size: 58cmAge: 01.08.2022. Compatible withMales: YesFemales: YesCats: not yet tested Since: 01.08.2024Residence: animal shelter ANAA Juni 2026 – Nijar is a beautiful Belgian female German Shepherd (Malinois). Behind her gentle eyes lies a moving story that shows how strong and brave this female dog is. She was found in the greenhouse areas of Almeria, the so-called sea of plastic. There, she fought for survival and had to take care of her three puppies at the same time. When she was rescued, she was completely exhausted, hungry, and full of fleas and ticks, in a terrible condition. Nijar is a quiet, sensitive, and reserved female dog who is still very mistrustful of people, for life has rarely shown her that she can trust. She takes treats out of your hand and watches attentively. She needs time, patience, and above all, the time to decide when she wants to allow closeness, one must not pressure her. She lives peacefully with other dogs, she does not seek conflict but also does not seek a close bond. She respects her fellow animals and is respected by you. She would feel particularly comfortable in a quiet environment. For Nijar, we are looking for an experienced home with people who understand the language of sensitive dogs and give her the time she needs. Ideally, her future people know the characteristics of a Malinois and have already had experience with dogs that have made difficult and traumatic experiences. She is not a dog for beginners. Nijar is looking for people who do not have expectations of her. She is looking for people who accept her as she is. People who meet her with patience, understanding, and respect. Nijar is waiting for her chance at a home where she can finally belong. Nijar has leishmaniasis and is treated with Allopurinol.

About Nijar

What life with Nijar looks like

Nijar is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tiere in Spanien e.V. in Hamburg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nijar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nijar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tiere in Spanien e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nijar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nijar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tiere in Spanien e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nijar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nijar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tiere in Spanien e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nijar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
