Nina

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Smart Puppy with a Disability "Born Date: December 2025 Size: under knee-high (still growing) Gets along with dogs: yes, but very unsure Gets along with children in the same household: no Home sought: quiet suburb or countryside The female mixed-breed dog Nina born in December 2025 is people-friendly but is looking for a home without children due to her disability and behavior. She is unsure around unfamiliar dogs and therefore requires a short getting-to-know-you phase. Basic commands, staying alone, leash manners, and house training are things she would like to learn in her new home. The bigger challenge for Nina is her past: the little puppy was found with a skull trauma, bleeding in the eye, and dislocated shoulder. So far, a trauma-induced cyst remains in her brain, and Nina therefore sees worse with one eye and is physically limited, for example, when climbing, judging distances, and often stumbles. Whether this disability will remain will become clear, as currently, efforts are being made to treat the cyst and thus the neurological impairment with medication. Due to her health condition, Nina is very stressed and has little frustration tolerance, but the little female dog has a big "please top": when she can or is allowed to do something, everything is good; but as soon as she doesn't receive any attention or input from a person, she starts to whine (jeans, hands, jumps up and bites clothing, etc.). Therefore, we are looking for a home for Nina with very patient, quiet people in a quiet suburb or countryside.

About Nina

What life with Nina looks like

Nina is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Austria in Vienna.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
