Adopt Nina

Podenco · Female · Young · 2 years

Akira Dog Sanctuary Update February 12, 2026: Nina is currently suffering from a contagious virus, which means she temporarily cannot leave the animal shelter. She is in quarantine but is being taken very good care of. With clean clothes and shoes, lots of cleaning and disinfecting. Nina cannot travel for two months, so her search for a golden bed is temporarily on hold. Hopefully, she will be noticed soon after this illness and can exchange all of this for a lovely soft bed and a family full of love. Input November 17, 2025: Nina came in together with Laika and is attached to Laika. They like to play together and also like to lie next to each other. Nina has a somewhat uncertain character but she really wants to. If she doesn't know you, she first looks at the cat from the tree and especially what the other dogs are doing. When she sees that it's okay, she also likes to come get a pat or a treat. Nina also likes to walk with you! She can pull on the leash, so she can still learn a bit there. We would ideally place Nina together with Laika because they are so attached to each other, but we understand that this might remain a dream. Nina is more attached to Laika than the other way around, but we want both ladies a chance. Therefore, they can also be placed without each other, but Nina needs another dog. Therefore, she can also be placed somewhere where another dog is already present. Who opens his or her heart for this beautiful girl?

About Nina

What life with Nina looks like

Nina is a medium-sized young adult podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
